Budtello uses your Metrc user API key to confirm which licences you work at, and to bring your Metrc packages into Budtello, ready to price. Budtello only reads from Metrc. It never creates, changes or deletes anything in Metrc.
Before you start
- A Budtello account, signed in.
- Your own login for Oregon Metrc at or.metrc.com: the one you use at work.
- API access on each licence. In Metrc, an admin at your business turns on API access for your employee account, one licence at a time (Admin → Employees).
Find your key in Metrc
Log in to Oregon Metrc at or.metrc.com.
Click your username in the top-right corner. Choose API Keys.
Copy your User API Key. If the box is empty, click Generate first. Generating a key is free and changes nothing in your Metrc account.
Connect it to Budtello
New account. Right after you sign up:
Create your Budtello account.
You should see: The page “Verify your licence”. It opens by itself.
Paste your key into Your Metrc user API key.
Tick the box that starts “I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy”. Verify does not go on without it.
Click Verify.
You should see: “Key verified”. There is no licence to pick and no Import button: Budtello starts the import for every licence on your key by itself.
Wait about a minute.
You should see: “Importing your inventory from Metrc” with a count of the products coming in, then Sell, with your lots on it.
- Go to Sell now skips the wait. Your lots keep loading on Sell.
- If the import fails or stalls, the Metrc Inventory tab opens instead.
- A dispensary account goes to the market while the import runs.
Already signed up. To connect a key later, or a new one:
In Budtello, open Sell, then the Metrc Inventory tab. Click Connect Metrc.
You should see: The page “Verify your licence”.
Paste your key into the box. Click Verify.
You should see: “Key verified” and the licences your key reaches.
Click the licence to use. Click Use this licence.
You should see: Import your inventory on a farm, wholesaler or processor licence; Open the market on a dispensary licence.
Click Import your inventory. On the Metrc Inventory tab, click Import beside the licence.
The first time, Budtello asks to read package and lab-result data for that licence. Click Allow import.
You should see: “Importing your inventory”, the number of products found and a progress bar. It takes about a minute.
Wait for the import to finish.
You should see: Your packages on the Metrc Inventory tab, tested and untested; tested lots are grouped by lab batch. Nothing is on the market yet: a lot stays private until you price it (Price and list a lot). An untested lot stays off the market until it is tested.
What Budtello reads
- Which licences your key reaches, and their names.
- Your packages, tested and untested: the active ones, and the ones that finished, were transferred or are in transit.
- The lab results for each lot.
- The harvest each package came from, to name the farm that grew it.
Every call Budtello makes to Metrc is a read. Your key is stored encrypted and is never shown back to anyone, you included.
Keeping it up to date
- Budtello reads your Metrc packages again every night.
- To read them sooner, click the refresh button marked Metrc on the Metrc Inventory tab. You get 5 refreshes a day, and 3 in any 15 minutes.
If it does not work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Metrc didn't recognise that key” | Copy the User API Key from Metrc again and paste it again. |
| “Metrc accepted the key but shows no licences for it.” | Ask your Metrc admin to turn on API access for your account on each licence. Then click Re-check with Metrc, or Paste the key again. You do not need a new key. |
| “Metrc didn't answer” | Your key is saved. Click Try again in a minute. |
| “Your stored Metrc key no longer works” | Copy a new key from Metrc and paste it in the box. |
